The problem in a novel is about the same thing as what a conflict is and can be in a novel. The conflict being an issue that is a collision or a disagreement which takes place between two opposing characters that tend to clash in opinions or views. For the story of Treasure Island, the conflict is faced with man v. man typically in instances dealing with the fights between the pirates and normal characters. In this instance with Jim Hawkins and Billy Bones where they argue over the right way of watching the Admiral Benbow and when he tries to warn Billy Bones of the arrival of Black Dog but he doesn't listen leading to a tense situation of mixed up information. Another scenario where this man v. man happens is when Long John Silver tries to get the treasure on the island before Jim and his friends. This creates a rise in tension and conflict in a way that everyone would know about the treasure and create a competitive scenario. The nature v. man type of problem occurs when they had to take a ship to an island making it difficult for all trying to transport to the island. The raft that Jim was in couldn't move without getting soaked making it a problem for Jim to be able to move on the island without being sunk in his surroundings.
