About the AuthorRobert Louis Stevenson was a Scottish writer during the 19th century and became notable from those works, including this one, Treasure Island. He was born on November 13, 1850 to a family that took part in creating Lighthouse designs. Lighthouse designs are when you plan out the design of a building that helps ships understand where they were going to port. He took interest in this and it began to influence some of his work with his first volume book, An Inland Voyage. He didn't get into writing at first but sparked interest after attempting a career in studying law.
What influenced him to write Treasure Island? Robert had gone a family vacation to a cottage located on an island and during that time his stepson had drawn a map of the island in which Stevenson then used to mark up with locations and an "X" for buried treasure. From that moment on he was inspired to use that map in his writing and his stepson wanted a book written about it and wanted the map to be the setting throughout. |
