Reversal is the opposite completely of what is stated in the situation of recognition. Meaning that the protagonist will eventually realize that everything is not going his or her way in the time or situation at hand. Examples of this type of situation range throughout Treasure Island from the instance where Jim first entered the ship unknowingly of the fact that he was not the only one that desired the treasure and that the journey was most likely not going in his favor. From this original idea of finding the treasure Jim had some sort of assumption that he would get a share of the treasure like everyone else. He was wrong because the pirates are very greedy and how they couldn't find it at first led to a reversal of where the treasure had not been in the place where the map suggested deceiving the pirates of looking for it in the wrong spot. Other examples of reversal through this book occur when Long John Silver finds that the crew is going against the captain and blamed him for stealing even though he didn't.
